Quebec takes shit on Newfoundland

Heckles Ontario while evacuating

In an utterly predictable decision, Quebec’s La Régie de l’énegie has denied the request of Newfoundland and Labrador to transmit hydroelectric power across Quebec’s grid and on to the rest of Canada.

As a result of the decision, inexpensive green energy that would otherwise have been transmitted to Canada, and primarily Ontario, will instead go to the United States.

It is Quebec’s position that it must profit from its place in Canada without ever contributing in return.  Quebec has long held the view that is distinct in every regard from other provinces in the Canadian confederation.

Premier Dalton McGuinty of Ontario, the province who would have been the principle beneficiary, was afraid to say anything about the decision.  In Ottawa, senior public servants would only comment on condition of strict anonymity. “We do what Quebec tells us.  If we didn’t they might come over and yell at us,” said one bureaucrat in broken French.
