Faced with growing opposition to “dirty” oil from its tar sands, Alberta has commissioned Hindler, Jinx Ltd., a leading New York advertising agency, to rebrand the province and the project.  The effort to change the province’s image became more urgent yesterday. On a visit to Ottawa, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, succumbed to fumes emanating from Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach and fainted. Even before passing out, Pelosi was thought to be an opponent of the tar sands projects.

Victor Proot of Hindler, Jinx says the new image for Alberta will be a personification of the province as a “transex cowperson. We wanted to get away from the old redneck cowboy image of the province, yet still keep some of the best of what it really is.  We thought “Alberta” is a lovely name for a girl, then cowgirl, and then, to really kick the stereotype in the ass, why not a boy-to-girl kind of situation?”

Hindler, Jinx is also now referring to the “tar sands” as the “cocoa dunes.”
